Railway at War, Oct 2011
Over 10,000 people swamped Pickering on this glorious, sunny October Saturday.
These Pictures were taken at 10 o’clock in the morning:
This is the Ropery and Market Place at around 11:30:
People, People, People, all day to spend strolling around admiring the culture and machinery of War.
A privilege afforded to so few by the sacrifice of so many, over 40,000,000 shed their blood to establish peace and ensure freedom.
Tragically, while ‘the Second World War’ ended, people still fight and war seems to be ever present.
Man has always struggled to find peace in the world around him, when the problem is actually on the inside.
“From within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
It Was Our Privilege to be out among the crowds telling of God’s provision to bring peace on the inside, through the ‘blood’ of His Son.
The Greatest Battle In History took Place on the Hill called Calvary. Here sin’s grip on people was finally broken for believers. Through faith in Jesus Christ they find peace with God, their neighbours and themselves.
Lot’s of people stopped to speak and take away literature, the news that real peace is available was gladly received.
2 Corinthians 5:19
God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
“We have not only peace towards the outer world, but peace within. After all, happiness and peace lie more within the man than in anything about him. Heaven lies more in the heart than in golden streets, and hell’s flame consists rather in man’s tortured conscience than in the Tophet fire which the breath of God has kindled. So the peace which Jesus gives is within us; “the good man is satisfied from himself.” C H Spurgeon 1343.148
The deepest want of man is not a desire for happiness, but a craving for peace; not a wish for the gratification of every desire, but a craving for the repose of acquiescence in the will of God: and it is this which Christianity promises. Christianity does not promise happiness, but it does promise peace.
WHAT A DAY!…
IT’S 1943 AGAIN,
MANY HAVE COME TO PARTICIPATE AND AS MANY COME TO WATCH.
TO SPEAK ABOUT
‘PEACE IN OUR TIME’.
Over 700 leaflets were distributed, and so many people stopped to talk there’s not enough room to tell about them all.
Three examples will need to suffice:
The first lady saw the reference to peace and thought we were Quakers!
I had the privilege of speaking with here about the One and only Saviour and Peace Maker, Jesus Christ.
Romans chapter 5 and verse 1:
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts chapter 10 and verse 36:
You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.
Man’s peace is just the absence of war, God’s peace is present and permanent, the kind for which everyone is looking! You find it when you find Him!
The Second Was A Young Man, mid Twenties, Who’d never read anything from the Bible!
He gladly took away copies of booklets, but most especially, Luke’s Gospel, written to give a factual account of Jesus life, death and resurrection to a Roman Official called Theophilus.
Luke’s Gospel Chapter 1 and verses 3 and 4:
Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
Christianity is based on evidence, not emotion or imagination, within a few years of His death and resurrection Godly men like Luke checked and recorded the details.
The Third was a mature lady who boasted of being an Atheist.
I briefly challenged her with the statement that “It’s illogical to be an atheist as no mere human could ever prove the non existence of God, and that He might just be where she hadn’t looked. At best you can be an agnostic, because you just don’t know”.
She went on to tell me that she’d been a Sunday School teacher but now rejected all she’d taught!
How is this possible? Because liberal teaching has robbed many Christians of confidence in God’s Word, and modern society says you can’t be definite about anything.
I’m glad to say she left with something to read, I pray that the Lord has graciously revealed Himself to her in salvation.
Psalm 14 verse 1 doesn’t mince it’s words regarding those who reject the existence of God:
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
If you’ve read this far please don’t waste any more time in the muddle of modern times,
Seek God until you find Him and He delivers you from the shackles of sin, listen to Jesus:
Matthew chapter 11 verse 28 says:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. “
A Fine But Cold Day, But Pickering is Packed with People.
Officially its 1943 and everyone is to dress appropriately!
An excellent opportunity to reach out and talk about the only lasting Peace Maker.
FIRST – SOME PICTURES:
If you can see yourself write a comment and we’ll send you information about finding peace with God.
While many reveled in the romance of the day, there were some who sought to speak of the reason men fight and the One who intervened to liberate man from its terrible grip.
Jas 4:1 Where do wars and fights come from among you?
Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?
Many stopped to talk, listen, and face the terrible truth that man is at war with God until he is given grace to surrender and believe.
Nick Preached about the need to be rescued to an attentive audience.
Asking whether anyone on the beach at Dunkirk would refuse to get in a boat, he challenged all who heard about their refusal to be rescued by Jesus Christ.
“you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”
