Tragically millions believe her and indulge themselves in deadly rebellion, vainly imagining that all is well so long as no harm is done.

Table Loaded with Good News

We spoke with a young man today who believed that God had sent their group a prophet who, though he died in 1965, was God’s channel to bring revelation over and above the Bible!

Don’t be too hard on him, we had some very searching dialogue, especially concerning his ‘hope’ of being welcomed by God on the last day, the need to have his sins forgiven beforehand and to embrace Jesus Christ as the only appointed mediator between man and God.

But his willingness to surrender his God given responsibility seek and find God directly to the pontifications of a man or woman instead of adhering to the plain teaching of Scripture that Jesus Christ is to be know directly and personally as God’s final, One and Only Word, Saviour and Lord, is tragic.

In Acts chapter 17 verses 10 to 12 the Apostle Paul commends the Bereans for their careful examination of what they’d been told in the light of Scripture:

  • Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.  These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men. The New King James Version. 1982 (Ac 17:10–12). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

And in 2nd Timothy chapter 2 and verse 15 where he says:

  • Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
  • The New King James Version. 1982 (2 Ti 2:15). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

The Lord Jesus himself warned His followers against following men rather than Scripture in Matthew chapter 7 and verses 15 and 16

  • “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? The New King James Version. 1982 (Mt 7:15–16). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

My young friend was trapped in a world where William Branham’s teachings were more important than those of Jesus Christ!

  • According to William Branham, an angel appeared to him in a secret cave in 1946 and guided him throughout his life. He had the amazing power to read people’s thoughts and understand their illnesses. He believed that Eve had had sexual relations with the serpent and that some people are descended from the “serpent’s seed” and destined for hell, which is not eternal. People were drawn to him, and he packed stadiums. Branham claimed he was the angel of Revelation 3:14 and 10:7, and predicted that the rapture would take place in 1977! Lang, J. S. (1999). 1,001 things you always wanted to know about the Holy Spirit (104). Nashville: T. Nelson Publishers.

The pattern has repeated itself in every age, its effects found in corruptions of Christianity like Romanism, Russellites, Mormons and religions like Buddhism, Islam and Mysticism.

  • Charles Taze Russell,  (1852–1916) Founder of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His theological opposition to the doctrines of the Trinity and eternal punishment led him to form the Jehovah’s Witnesses as a sect to promote his heretical ideas. He was also obsessed with fixing a date for the Second Coming, which he asserted would be in 1884 and, when that did not materialize, in 1914. He was proved wrong both times. In 1884 he set up Zion’s Watchtower Tract Society in Pittsburgh to produce literature for his followers.

  • Joseph Smith, (1805–1844) Founder of Mormonism and a prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is said to have experienced a conversion at the age of 15 and subsequently to have received a direct revelation from God engraved on golden plates. He translated and published the contents of these tablets as the Book of Mormon in 1830. He followed it up with A Book of Commandments in 1833 (later republished as Doctrine and Covenants in 1835). Both these books form the scriptures of the Mormon Church. He claimed divine sanction for his own polygamy, which so incensed his neighbors in Carthage, Illinois, that he was killed by a mob in the local jail in 1844.

There is a hell to shun and a heaven to enjoy, Jesus Christ is the only one in all time and space who can deliver you from the first and give you entrance to the latter. Abandon listening to mere men and hear God speak that you might be delivered from sin and its consequences.

  • Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
  • The New King James Version. 1982 (Ac 4:12). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
  • 1 Timothy 2:5,6 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

Weather’s fine but definitely cooler.

Still, the freedom to witness of the Risen Saviour gives ample cause to be out speaking to any who will hear.

My First Conversation was with Bob.

A gentleman, who it turned was in his 80’s, he told me he hadn’t heard the Gospel since his childhood, in Sunday school.

Part of that slowly increasing mission field [especially here in Pickering] of older people. They’ve lived a whole life without God and have little sense of urgency about needing to prepare to meet Him.

Mt 24:44  “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Bob said he recognized life was a one way journey and that he was conscious of being statistically nearer the terminus than many others, but felt no need to get ready to get off!

He did take a copy of Ultimate Questions [You can have one too if you will just ask], I pray that the light of God’s glorious grace will shine into his heart.

Matthew records Jesus’ exhortation to get on the right road now rather than waiting till its too late.

Mt 7:13  Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
Mt 7:14  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

John 14:6  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Vanessa and I spoke with a Roman Catholic Couple From Leeds.

Quite firm in their commitment to Rome’s teaching, they resisted any probing questions with something like, ‘we don’t want to get into an argument’. Truth is neither did we, but we were persuaded that man will live forever in either heaven or hell, and that only Jesus Christ Himself can save you from the latter. For this reason we dare to cross the barriers of popular convention to press home the importance of knowing Him as Lord and Saviour. Churches can’t save, men can’t forgive sin, God can, will and does!

Acts 4:12  Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Acts 5:31  Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

For this reason, God Willing and weather permitting, we count it a privilege to speak of Christ to all who will stop and listen.

Ready and Willing!

Ready and Waiting!

1Corinthians 9:22  to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

Good News indeed.

Good News indeed.

Few people could be persuaded to stop and talk today, our hour had almost finished before Rosalind and Ralph gave me about 30 minutes of their time.

An articulate Roman Catholic, Rosalind spoke gently and passionately of her religious convictions.
She was persuaded that the Church of Rome is the only true, visible, worldwide church of Christ.
She defended confessing sin to a man, spoke of the vital place of Mary as the mother of Christ.
Challenged my views as biased and based on anti Roman literature.
For her the Reformation was the Deformation, a tragedy which has resulted in people like me excluding myself from the true Church of Christ.

At times the debate was dramatic, but always friendly.

I was able to point out that forgiveness for sin against God cannot be given by a man.
That all must speak directly with God concerning the matter, as He alone can forgive sin.
That Jesus Christ is to be approached directly and not through His mother or other imaginary representative.
Scripture like Matthew chapter 10, makes this clear:
28  “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29  “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30  “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Or this, from Acts chapter 13:
38  Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins;
39  and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Mary is without doubt given a unique and highly honoured position as the human mother of the Holy Child, but is given no further special role beyond this in Scripture. At one point the Saviour Himself even turns her away: [note the ‘brothers’, she isn’t a ‘perpetual virgin’!]
Matthew Chapter 12 records these words:
47  Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.”
48  But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?”
49  And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
50  “For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”
The Church of Rome has imposed the teaching of men on the people of God and must be rejected as corrupt.
Millions blindly follow its dogma and ultimately perish because they have been duped into thinking a man can pronounce their sin forgiven!

Here are a few BIBLE verses which clarify matters –

Proverbs 14:12  There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

Matthew 7:13  Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.

The last Word Belongs to Jesus:

John 10: 9  “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
