Charles Darwin, haven’t you heard of Him?

Was the question posed by one elderly gentleman who’d scanned the table as he passed it by.

Table set out in Market Place.

He went on to say, that since Darwin has shown we are all descended from apes, when you are dead you are dead, in the same way all other animals cease to exist when life expires.

He sought to assure me that he’d studied the matter of religion and could not understand why anyone should bother with it today.

I was able to tell him that I had indeed heard of Charles Darwin, but that I disagreed with him as to the origins of life and the development of species.

That although man shared many common features with his animal cousins, he alone feels the need to explain his existence.

Ecclesiastes chapter 3 and verse 11 explains it thus:

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

That life is a gift from God, the Creator of the Universe.

I further explained that his concept of life and death was described and corrected thousands of years ago in the Bible book of Ecclesiastes.

Ecclesiastes chapter 3 and verses 18 to 20

I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts. For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity. All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.

Ecclesiastes chapter 11 and verse 7 explains the difference between man and beast:

the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

We further discussed the historical evidence for Jesus Christ, His claims, work and resurrection!

Because He was cruelly put to death and then publicly verified as having risen from the dead, only a fool or very biased person could argue that men, like animals, stay dead when they die.

Since Charles Darwin and his subsequent followers ignore what Jesus Christ said and accomplished their conclusions are in error!

Proverbs chapter 14 and verse 12 sums this up:

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

Jesus Himself in Matthew chapter 10 and verse 28, warns people that dying is not the end of existence.

do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

The reason He died and rose was to rescue all who believe in Him from eternal hell and give them everlasting life.

Though my protagonist chose to remain willfully at odds with God and departed, you need not follow his example.

Jesus died for sinners and rose to make it possible for believers to receive everlasting life now in preparation for the world that awaits all beyond the grave.

John chapter 5 and verse 24 says:

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
